Birdneck Point Real Estate
The History Behind Birdneck Point as We Know It Today…
The land we know today was once fertile and rich farmland belonging to several families. Linkhorn Bay, which is easily seen from the neighborhood, was filled with fish and shellfish. In the early 1900s, Birdneck was split up into five separate areas. In 1927, an arrangement was made with the owners of the Cavalier Hotel to create some sort of recreational center for hotel guests.
In 1938, the golf course was purchased from Mr. Crane’s estate after his untimely death. Afterwards, the golf course was known as the Cavalier Country Club. Mr. Sidney Banks, who owned the hotel, played a major role in the growth of the club and all amenities available. In 1947, the facilities would be known as Cavalier Yacht and Country Club.
This was available as a private, non-profit club for members and their guests. Eventually, an extension was planned to accommodate larger boats. Various other improvements, including a 200-seat dining room, paddle tennis and shuffleboard courts, and an area for guests arriving by air were completed.
